We are building the enterprise payments infrastructure of Latin America!

What we are looking for:

Cobre is seeking a motivated Risk Analytics Engineer, to support the design, development, and optimization of our compliance and risk analytics infrastructure.

In this role, you will work with cross-functional teams—including Compliance, Fraud, Operations, and Data—to transform complex financial and transactional data into actionable risk insights.

You will be instrumental in shaping our risk data infrastructure, ensuring regulatory compliance, and developing sophisticated monitoring systems that protect Cobre and our clients from financial crimes and regulatory violations.
This role will also collaborate closely (dotted-line) with our core data team—responsible for data engineering, analytics, and AI—to align on best practices, promote knowledge sharing, and maintain a unified analytics vision across the organization.

What would you be doing:

  • Compliance Risk Data Architecture & Integrations: Design scalable end-to-end pipelines (dbt, Airflow, Snowflake) to unify and integrate data from transaction monitoring systems, KYC/AML platforms, regulatory reporting systems, and external risk data providers. Develop and optimize data models to enhance real-time risk detection capabilities and regulatory reporting accuracy. Incorporate third-party risk intelligence platforms (World-Check, Dow Jones Risk & Compliance, OFAC databases) to enrich customer and transaction records, ensuring comprehensive risk assessment and regulatory compliance.

  • Collaboration with Cross-Functional Teams: Partner with Compliance, Risk Management, and Legal teams to understand regulatory requirements, risk appetite, and analytics needs. Work closely with Data Engineering to define infrastructure requirements for real-time monitoring, data retention policies, and security protocols that meet regulatory standards and support scalable, cost-effective risk management solutions.

  • Technical Excellence & Best Practices: Contribute to compliance analytics best practices, optimize pipeline performance for real-time monitoring, and support data governance standards that meet regulatory requirements.

  • Continuous Learning & Regulatory Support: Support identification of new AI/ML opportunities for risk detection, assist in communicating analytics progress to stakeholders, ensure adherence to evolving regulatory requirements (PCI-DSS, Colombian and Mexican financial regulations, international AML standards), and contribute to continuous improvement in compliance monitoring effectiveness.

What do you need:

  • Educational Background: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Statistics, Finance, Risk Management, or a related quantitative field.

  • Experience Level: 1–4 years of experience in data analytics, financial services, or compliance-related roles.

  • Technical Proficiency: Proficiency in SQL and Python, experience with modern data warehousing (Snowflake, Redshift, or Databricks), ETL/ELT orchestration (Airflow, dbt), cloud services (AWS/GCP) and BI tools (Looker, Tableau). Exposure with real-time data processing frameworks (Kafka, Spark Streaming) is a plus.

  • Compliance & Risk Analytics: Interest in or basic experience with compliance technology ecosystems (e.g., transaction monitoring systems, KYC platforms, case management tools, regulatory reporting systems) and risk data sources. Willingness to learn AML/CFT regulations, fraud detection methodologies, and financial crime typologies.

  • Analytics Foundation: Understanding of analytics engineering principles, data validation strategies, and basic regulatory data governance concepts. Ability to translate business requirements into technical specifications. Interest in explainable AI and model interpretability for regulatory applications.

  • Regulatory Awareness: Basic familiarity with financial regulations or willingness to learn Colombian financial regulations (SFC, UIAF), international AML standards (FATF recommendations), PCI-DSS requirements, and data privacy regulations.

  • Soft Skills: Strong communication skills, ability to work in a fast-paced regulatory environment, analytical thinking for problem-solving, and eagerness to learn from senior team members.

  • Nice to have: Any FinTech/banking experience, interest in compliance certifications (CAMS, ACAMS), exposure to regulatory processes, basic knowledge of cryptocurrency compliance, experience with Agile methodologies.
